What is it like to be an artist?

(My favorite photo of S)

Being an artist isn't all glamourous and money doesn't come easily. I got a little glimpse of what an artist life was when I was studying in an art school for 3 years. And of course seeing how S works his way through the art industry. It isn't easy. Which makes me respect artist even more. Especially those in Singapore.

Singapore doesn't really support or recognize local artist as much as other countries like America or Australia. You really got to find ways and means to get an artist residency or try your luck on getting a grant from the NAC (National Art Council) Though I must say that Singapore has opened up a lot to the art scene recently. I think you will not be able to get an answer if you asked a random stranger  who has no art back ground on the street to name 3 local artist . Which is quite sad. When I ask my students about an artist they know about they will say Van Goh, and sadly thats the only artist that they know.

Buying art materials isn't cheap and it is like an investment. You buy good quality paints, paper or canvas in return you will get a better painting or print. However you might do 20 pieces of works but only manage to sell 1. Well, I people might say that being an artist isn't all about selling works. Some people might think that even if they don't sell it is fine. Which is pretty unrealistic because you wont have any income to support your self.

Geylang Serai

This is my first time attending a night flea market in Geylang Serai.  I don't fancy crowded places but I wanted to have Churros so badly so I didn't mind the crowd. It isn't easy to find churros in Singapore. The only place that I know sells them is in Universal studios. Yes, I know there are cafes that sells them but they are so out of the way! Though the Churros I had were not great , but it did satisfy my cravings.

Gyu-Kaku

Shrimps in Garlic Butter, Scallop in Butter and Soy Sauce
$24 meet platter
Seaweed soup

We went there for the Cotton Candy Sukiyaki Karub.
Watch the cotton candy melt!
It tasted really nice and sweet too!
Basil Chicken dipped with cheese fondue

The staff were really friendly and were willing to teach us how to cook our meat well. Best part was that the food tasted really great and the price was reasonable too! Would definitely go there again. (As you can tell I am horrible at describing how delicious the food is haha! I ensure you it is really very yummy!  )

Learning to be on my own.

When S was away traveling I came to a realization that I should spend more time on myself , alone. It wasn't easy at first, especially during those days that I was having off days and I had nobody to hang out with as my friends were either traveling or working. (Unfortunately my off days are not on the weekends so it is quite hard to meet up) But I felt happy that I can go around shopping without making anybody wait and eat whatever I want to eat and watch a lot of movies in bed.  Other than all this superficial things, being alone makes me think, which makes me write more.  Though I must say that I am not a good writer.

I have never expect myself being happy to be alone.

Thrifting regret

I went to the thrift store again and I bought this. Thinking that it will look great on its own with a belt. But when I tried it looked so horrible. So much for thinking that the design at the bottom looked unique. I was about to donate it away till I thought of making it with a crop jacket which worked wonders! I managed to hide the ugly square collar.

TADA! Still figuring out other ways to wear this blouse.
